Every year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America chooses one young leader for its highest honor: the National Youth of the Year. Selected among four million youth from Boys & Girls Clubs across the country and on military installations around the world, the National Youth of the Year is presented with the award – which includes $340,000 in college scholarships, a new car and a trip to Disneyland – by Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington at a star-studded gala in Washington, D.C.
The 68th Annual National Youth of the Year Gala, held on September 29th, included a “Blue Carpet” walked by celebrities such as Washington, Kelly Rowland, Sherri Shepard, Timbaland and Monique Mosley as well as D.C. leaders such as Congressman Steny Hoyer and Speaker John Boehner.
MSI PR was charged with securing media attendance at the event, interviews on the Blue Carpet and coverage for the winner’s inspirational story. From People magazine and US Weekly to Good Morning America and EXTRA!, America had the opportunity to meet Whitney Stewart: the 2015 National Youth of the Year.
